Welcome

Welcome to the Council of Europe site for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals. This site provides materials and tools for education on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The materials have been developed to be used in the training of the judiciary. They may also be of interest to other (legal) professionals working in the field of human rights.

The site aims to support a community of human rights trainers in Europe. You are welcome to use the materials on this site. We hope that in return you share your materials and comments with us, to participate in the exchange of expertise and experience within the training community.

In the Guide at the bottom of this text you will find information that will help you to navigate on this website.

Training Materials

You can search by article of the ECHR, or by theme. Further you will find in this section a standard curriculum on the ECHR, which aims to identify all topics that could be included in human rights training. The course outlines–based on the standard curriculum- contain key concepts, definitions and case law that you can rely on to build your own course.

Training methodology

You need more than materials to give a good training. Training legal professionals means training highly educated adults. To do that you will need other methods than, for example, the way you yourself were trained at school or university as a child or young adult. The manual on training methodology provides theoretical information on the principles of educating/training adults and more practical information about how to apply the theory and how to organise a training event.

E-learning

Here you will find a collection of 'e-learning courses' that you can use on your own or in groups (specified for each course). To use E-learning courses you must have access to a computer. The courses will provide you with theoretical information and interactive tools, allowing you to learn what you want, at your own pace and when you have time for it. Trainers are invited to use this platform for developing and delivering their own e-Learning courses. Please contact Marianna Zwozdziak-Carbonne for any further information.
